Women, Life, Freedom
Dear Diary: yesterday we bought my new Hijab. My sister says that we should respect and always wear our Hijabs. I love mine, because the fabric is soft and it makes me feel like i belong in my community. My grandma says that it represents purity, discretion, and faith. Also, I just turned twelve and had my first period. The Hijab was my gift.
Dear Diary: We are organizing my wedding. My husband is named Amir. He is very handsome and is seventeen years old. I am a bit nervous because we’re getting married on my birthday, and I’m only turning fifteen.
Dear Diary: I’m pregnant. Amir brought his second wife to come live with us.
Dear Diary: My daughter was born last night. She’s beautiful. I wish that Nasrin could study what she wants and go where she wants. I wish she could see the world and then come back and tell me what it’s like. Amir brought home his third wife.
Dear Diary: Today I’m turning 25 but I feel like I’m turning 100. Nasrin finished primary school, and Amir is forbidding her from continuing with her studies. I’m very upset with him. I think that she’ll end up going anyway.
Dear Diary: Nasrin went out to march in the streets with friends, protesting the unjust death of Masha Amin: “Women, Life, and Liberty!” they screamed. She also cut her hair. I don’t know what to think, but I’m very worried.
Dear Diary: Nasrin is in jail. Today I went to the square with a group of mothers. We cut all our hair off. Amir never visits me, and the truth is, I don’t miss him.
